Singapore, 7 July 2021 – The Alliance of Pentecostal & Charismatic Churches of Singapore (APCCS) affirms our stance of marriage being a union between one man and one woman, in contrast to the Methodist Church in Britain’s recent decision to permit same-sex marriages. 

APCCS agrees with the Methodist Church in Singapore, which has since clarified its position on the matter in a statement titled “MCS Sexuality Statement”, released the week before. 

Rev Yang Tuck Yoong, Chairman of APCCS, said, “APCCS, alongside the Methodist church in Singapore, continues to affirm the biblical form and substance of marriage, and commit to being grounded in the clear teachings of Scripture.” 

Sanctity of Marriage 

Biblical scripture is unequivocal about marriage: it is a union of heart, soul, mind and body that can only be between a man and a woman. 

APCCS believes that the sanctity of marriage is reflected in the divinely ordained and unique nature of love between a husband and a wife. 

Marriage has always been a high bar even for Christians and we acknowledge that even Christians have failed at marriage within the church. However, the Christian way is not to modify the founding standards, but to provide a loving and safe community to help people who wish to reach those standards, reach them. 

Search for Identity Found in Christ 

We recognise that the desire for companionship and love – along with a search for identity, meaning and purpose – is deep within every human heart. 

We empathise, too, with the desire for love and acceptance among persons who identify as LGBTQ and are committed to providing a community in which these people can flourish. 

Yet, it is also our firm persuasion that this human search for love and acceptance finds fulfilment in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and a life of surrender to His ways, including the biblical instruction on sexuality.
