Singapore, 26 April 2019 – The Alliance of Pentecostal & Charismatic Churches of Singapore expresses great sadness over the tragedy that has taken place in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. It is especially deplorable that the perpetrators would use a day of great importance for Christians to spread fear, discord, and hate among the various communities of faith.

We grieve with those who have lost loved ones – for every son or daughter who has lost a parent and every parent who has lost a child. Our hearts also go out to those who must daily live with the physical, mental, and emotional consequences from these horrific attacks.

The Alliance commends the efforts of law enforcement and medical personnel as they work tirelessly to treat the injured, restore peace, and apprehend the offenders. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and all Sri Lankans in this difficult time as they endeavor to rebuild their cities and strengthen their pluralistic society.

We call for all churches this weekend to continue praying for Sri Lanka, as well as for greater bonds of unity among religious groups around the world in light of growing tension and extremism. May our shared humanity strengthen us against those who try to divide us.
